Jade Natural Healing Stone - Information & Properties
What is Jade?
Jade isn’t a single stone—it refers to two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. While they appear similar, they differ chemically and structurally. Jadeite is rarer and more valuable, particularly the deep green variety known as Imperial Jade. Nephrite is more common, typically occurring in cream, green, or greyish tones.
What is Jade Made of?
Jadeite: Composed of sodium, aluminum, and silicate (NaAlSi₂O₆), Jadeite is a pyroxene mineral that is harder and more valuable.
Nephrite: Made of calcium, magnesium or iron, silicate, and hydroxide, Nephrite is an amphibole mineral that is slightly softer and more fibrous.
Both minerals have a monoclinic crystal structure and are renowned for their exceptional toughness.
Where is Jade Found?
Jadeite: Primarily found in Myanmar, with smaller deposits in Guatemala, Japan, Russia, and California (USA).
Nephrite: Occurs in China, New Zealand, Canada, Russia (Siberia), and parts of the USA, including Alaska and Wyoming.
